Food for Thought - 20% Corporate Diversity in Kansas City by 2015?

Posted by wblfoundation

Last week, WBL Founder & President was invited to speak at the launch of the Win | Win initiative, led by the Central Exchange and supported by the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, the Kansas City Area Development Council, University of Missouri - Kansas City’s Bloch School, the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation, and the Kauffman Foundation.  The Central Exchange is a membership organization in the Kansas City area supporting women by providing leadership development, business skills enhancement, and access to valuable resources, across all industries and career levels.

The win| win campaign was launched after a study by The Central Exchange found that women made up only 7% of board members and 7% of executives in the Kansas City region’s top 39 public companies.  Lagging behind US Fortune 500 companies by nearly 50%, Win|Win set an ambitious goal of raising that 7% number to 20% by 2015.  To learn more visit http://www.winwinkc.com.

WBL Tours the National Museum of Health and Medicine

Posted by wblfoundation

A small group of DC based (and several Nashville based) Foundation Associates were lucky to get a private tour of the National Museum of Health and Medicine on the Walter Reed campus in DC.  Although the companies of those attending represented the future of medicine, the group learned about the past—“plagues that changed history”, battlefield surgery (both during the Civil War and now, in Iraq), and the final hours of Abraham Lincoln.  We also saw the first ever heart monitor that began to allow doctors to practice medicine and monitor conditions away from the bedside.  The tour is one of several exciting events WBL is beginning to plan for Foundation Associates in the DC area.  The group was joined by several more for dinner at a restaurant in Silver Spring for more networking opportunities.
